Philosophy of Stage 125

Our Principles
We aspire to a theatre that constantly evolves by incorporating new ideas and relating to the lives of modern humans, serving as a source of surprise, enjoyment and discovery and actively involving artists and audiences from different backgrounds. We wish to explore the possibilities offered by the theatre and the arts associated with it.
The theatre we desire is extroverted and open towards the rest of Greece and the world as whole, on the basis of synergies between artists from all theatre-related fields. A theatre that brings people together, raising questions concerning their existence and promoting diversity. A theatre that is innovative and experimental, that encourages the use of modern techniques and methods, as well as the interaction between artists and the audience.
We are interested in social, political and educational activities that foster the development of our audience and introduce children and young people to the art of theatre, while contributing to the fight against stereotypes and discrimination. A theatre that is directly connected to the surrounding city and reflects the diversity of the wider geographical area, aiming at the participation of the community.
The workshop of Theatriki Sympaignia employs exclusively professional actors, dancers and musicians, while the seminars that it offers are led by renowned teachers and artists.
Our productions are realised either by professionals, or by individuals who have been attending the workshop’s courses and lessons for years. Our rich portfolio includes more than 24 theatrical performances and actions realised since 2016.

Our aims
Our aim is to employ as many artists from our city and the wider region of Epirus as possible, given the significant problem of unemployment facing local artists. We also aspire to collaborate with artists from other countries (immigrants, refugees) living in our area, thus creating a multicultural theatre that is open to diversity.
As far as our repertoire and themes are concerned, our priority is to connect theatre and our work to contemporary reality and the issues facing a wide audience, in favour of a radical and innovative theatre.
Our artistic interests cover various issues, ranging from the environment and diversity to bullying, violence, gender-based violence, racism, etc.
Besides artistic experimentation and the organisation and production of performances, our main goal is to establish a prosperous and financially sound business.
We are persuaded that by hosting successful performances from Athens and the rest of Greece, we will be able to achieve the desired impetus towards the economic development of the company, thus ensuring that we can carry on with our theatrical research and experimentation.
Thanks to our new facilities, we are now able to host performances from all over Greece and abroad and to organise festivals related to theatre, dance and music with the participation of Greek and foreign artists, all of which will help to expand our young audience, given that Ioannina is a city of 150,000 inhabitants and around 35,000 students.

Our facilities
As of late October 2021, Theatriki Sympaignia has its own theatrical stage, ‘Stage 125’, which is available not only for the company’s own performances, but also for performances, events, concerts, presentations, exhibitions, etc. of other artists who live and work in Epirus, the rest of Greece and abroad, in the framework of its pursuit for artistic extroversion.
The facilities of Theatriki Sympaignia include an outdoor space where activities and lessons are organised.
Moreover, a Foyer is currently under construction, which is expected to open in the summer of 2022 and serve as a meeting place for artists and creators, as well as an additional events venue.
Our facilities are also home to the theatre workshop of Theatriki Sympaignia, which has a classroom where acting, singing and contemporary dance are taught, changing/dressing rooms for the students and actors and four toilets for the public (one for people with disabilities).
Theatriki Sympaignia collaborates with a stage engineer and stage technician, an electrician and a sound engineer on a permanent basis, who assist in the production of its amateur and professional performances.
Moreover, it has its own cloakroom with more than 200 costumes, where a cloakroom manager-dressmaker is employed on a daily basis.
Finally, it employs one person as administrative assistant and one dramatologist-theatrologist.
