The play is based on an adaptation of the novel ‘Chess Story’ by Stefan Zweig, which was completed in 1942 during Zweig’s stay in Brazil.
On a random occasion, a wandering man is reminded of his own story concerning his arrest and peculiar imprisonment by the Gestapo.
Alone and isolated from the world, in a state of confinement, inside a room lacking any stimuli, his only access to the outside world being the violent and torturous repeated interrogation, he faces despair, vanity and resignation.
When a book suddenly falls into his hands…
